The Loom House
The Loom House has been transformed into a romantic weekend or long
weekend getaway cabin for two with modern conveniences. Downstairs in the living area is a massage tub for two (with scented bubble bath) across the room from the original wood-burning fireplace. A wet bar is nearby. A cozy bedroom with queen bed, and a small bath with a corner shower are upstairs. The private porch, with its own rockers, faces the farmhouse. The cabin is air-conditioned. A chair-and-a-half downstairs opens up to make a bed for a 3rd person, if needed.

The Mast Farm dates from the late 1700s, when Joseph Mast traveled to the
mountains from Randolph County, North Carolina, where he was born in 1764. His
father John had settled there after emigrating from Switzerland via
Pennsylvania. Joseph is said to have traded his rifle, his dog, and a pair
of leggings for 1000 acres of fertile Watauga River Valley land. The first
house, a two-room log cabin, was built between 1810 and 1812 and remains today
as the oldest inhabitable log cabin in North Carolina. This cabin is the center
of The Mast Farm Inn & Restaurant. It is called the Loom House because Aunt
Josie Mast turned that original log cabin into a loom house and became
celebrated for her coverlets, rugs, and handbags. Some of her coverlets are
in the Smithsonian today. The Mast Farm Inn is a unique and eclectic
collection of farm buildings, workshops, cottages, and cabins added between 1810
and 2004 and designed to receive guest in the greatest comfort possible while
retaining the historical character of the buildings. It offers a wide and varied
selection of lodging environments for different requirements and tastes. Each
room, cottage and cabin has its particular features, benefits and character.
Much like no two people are alike, no two rooms are alike. The Loom House is
unique and a favorite of guests, photographers, artists, children, and
passersby. It is the soul of The Mast Farm Inn.
Guest Testimonials
"What makes the quintessential
innkeeper? Maybe it’s that every effort to ensure a wonderful guest experience
is made with thoughtful attention to detail. Perhaps it’s at dinner as Sandra
wends her way among the beautifully appointed tables to speak with each and
every guest as if greeting old friends. Maybe it’s the charming Frenchness of it
all, the way she, her mother Marie-Henriette and sister Danielle interact with
staff, guests and each other, like part of a very special family. We feel lucky
to be a part of it. ~ B. & P."
"Sandra, S. and I had a wonderful time. The inn was beautiful, the food was
great, and we love the Valle Crucis area, but what really made the trip special
was your family's hospitality. We appreciate the time you took to make our
weekend unique. I have already recommended the Mast Farm Inn to several of my
friends and co-workers, and S. and I hope to be back very soon ourselves. Please
get in touch when you're in Raleigh - we look forward to hearing from you again.
Have a wonderful week! T."
"Dear Family Owners of the Mast Farm Inn: Thank you so much for accommodating
our early (7am) departure on 6 May (the fresh fruit and egg sandwiches got us to
our destination w/o any fast food stop :-) We also very much enjoyed our fine
dinner the night before (Pecan Encrusted Trout and the Squash Soup especially).
The Miss Allie room was perfect for just the two of us, for we slept well on the
fine mattress on the antique bed listening to the rain. Of course, walking the
road down to the river and exploring the back yard and out-buildings (and
swinging on the front porch) was a good way to work up an appetite for dinner.
Especially friendly were your two daughters and son-in-law, who even helped us
connect our e-mail. We will certainly recommend your inn to our friends and
family, and we look forward to visiting again. The experience was certainly Tres
Bon! Sincerely, N. & E."
