The Mast Farm dates from the late 1700s, when Joseph Mast traveled to the
mountains from Randolph County, North Carolina, where he was born in 1764. His
father John had settled there after emigrating from Switzerland via
Pennsylvania, where his brother remained. Joseph is said to have traded his
rifle, his dog, and a pair of leggings for 1000 acres of fertile Watauga River
Valley land. The first house, a two-room log cabin, was built around 1810 and
remains today as the oldest inhabitable log cabin in Watauga County.
Guest Testimonials
"I have recommended The Mast Farm Inn to several friends and family. I am
planning a weekend trip there this spring. I just love it so much, I thought it
was the perfect place to get away for the weekend! ~ S.R."
"Sandra, The trip back was wonderful and we talked this afternoon and we
would like to come back there maybe this summer on or motorcycle if we can get
away. I would only come there if both you and your sister would be there. Keep
up the good work and have a great year. DD"
"Danielle, I am so happy to hear that things are almost done. You are such a
blessing, and I am so glad you are in charge! ... I look forward to meeting with
you and getting everything else we need done out of the way. It's so nice that I
don't have to do all the planning!"
